City of Jamestown Active Transportation Plan

Jamestown, NY

The Chautauqua County Health Network’s Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work, and Play initiative seeks to promote active transportation as a key component of healthy lifestyles. Pashek + MTR worked with the Health Network, City of Jamestown, and Jamestown Renaissance Corporation to facilitate a community visioning process and develop implementation strategies to improve pedestrian and bicycle facilities in the area. The plan reviewed existing ordinances, crash data, land use, infrastructure, public facilities and destinations, and performed a safe routes to school analysis.

The following vision statement was developed during the process

Jamestown is a City where residents and visitors of all ages and abilities can choose to walk or bicycle in a safe and comfortable network designed for everyday transportation and recreation needs”.

The planning process led to establishing specific implementation strategies to promote healthy life styles and provide the pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure necessary to support active transportation choices within the City of Jamestown. Recommendations and implementation strategies address Education, Engineering, Enforcement, Encouragement, and Evaluation and Planning. These five categories were used to organize over 250 action steps to implement a Complete Streets vision for active transportation in Jamestown.
