Monroeville Active Transportation Plan
Monroeville, PA
During preparation of an implementable comprehensive plan, residents and officials in Monroeville identified “improved bicycle and pedestrian connectivity” as a high priority. The municipality then hired Pashek+MTR to create an Active Transportation Plan.
The resulting plan (in final draft form) provides a step-by-step guide to improving the “Six E’s” of Active Transportation: Education, Enforcement, Encouragement, Evaluation and Planning, Equity and Engineering.
The full plan provides necessary detail for undertaking Active Transportation infrastructure projects of all types, including transit stops, sidewalk connectivity, bicycle routes, hiking-biking trails, and proposed multi-purpose trails. The plan also provides next steps for meeting some other Active Transportation improvements in Monroeville – a community that was designed for transportation by motor vehicles. Those improvements include ways to educate residents about Active Transportation; to encourage people to walk and bike more; and to enhance safety as drivers, cyclists and pedestrians increasingly share roadways.
